From the architect. Park Associates' latest renovation project challenges the traditional model of student accommodation and injects new vitality into Milan's former agricultural cooperatives. This adaptive reuse project has created a vibrant community for over 700 students located on Via Ripamonti, while preserving memories of industrial landmarks from the 1940s.

The studio fully utilizes the rich historical background of the building and cleverly builds a delicate dialogue bridge between the past and present. Our vision is to respect the industrial heritage of the site while creating spaces that promote both learning and community exchange, "explained Filippo Pagliani, founding partner of Park Associates." The design concept emphasizes the presentation of comparison. The original building retains its strong industrial atmosphere through gray plaster and sandstone, while the modern expansion seems to float on top of the historic facade, adding color to it. Next to it, a new expansion building stands out with its unique identity, creating a harmonious contrast with the original building through the rhythmic combination of glass and metal. Between these two buildings is the core of the project - a courtyard that serves as an outdoor living room for the student community. This space breaks the boundary between learning and leisure, providing both a relaxing green area and a space for sports and social interaction. We hope to create a place where students can freely switch between focused learning and spontaneous communication, "Pagliani continued.

A colorful staircase leads to the basement, where there is a cinema and music room, while the first floor provides a smooth space for learning, meetings, and exchanging ideas. Customized wooden furniture and bold colors add warmth to the industrial environment, creating an intimate atmosphere in large spaces. In residential areas, studios turn building restrictions into opportunities. Whether it's a cozy single room or an innovative duplex studio, every living space strikes a balance between private space and community connection. Cluster apartments provide a particularly innovative solution that allows 8 to 12 students to share living space while maintaining their own private areas.
