Balangyu Xiangzhi Wharf Store/Degraded Building

The swimmer climbed ashore. Fishermen carrying plastic buckets filled with daily necessities for going out to sea boarded the ship. They meet in the middle of two small buildings. This used to be the ice chiseling room next to the ice factory, delivering ice cubes to fishing boats that were about to set sail for many years. Now, it is a caf é called Balangyu, delivering coffee to strangers who arrived. Motorcycles frequently come and go. Local men with tanned skin stood in the second floor corridor of the dangerous building across from the ice factory, watching - "Balangyu, dry! We still need barrang fish, even though we have barrang fish. ”They drink coffee ash. ”Do we have a discount on coffee ash. ”

How to understand and enter a coffee shop that appeared on the dock due to the transformation of a small town? It was the consensus that the operators of "Barangyu", Yasan and Ame, and as the designers, we initially needed to reach. After overcoming a competitor who intended to paint them pink for photography, we tried our best to preserve and restore the original appearance of the building - the walls corroded by seawater salt; Exposed steel bars; The ice making, professional crane, crew introduction phone number on the wall, as well as the densely packed names of ship owners and fishing boat numbers, are the information network woven by the fishing port.

Because it was originally a space for handling ice cubes, the small building has a unique scale and spatial feel. In our design, we imitated this scale - narrow doors and stairs, small passages and turning platforms, but opened large windows to bring the surrounding harbor scenery into the interior. The lifting platform originally used to transport ice cubes, one settled on the first floor and the other was lifted to the second floor as a small exhibition space.

We have made some restrained handling in some details, making them not discordant with the rough interface but revealing the texture of the product. The owner's choices in lighting, furniture, and artwork perfectly add the decorative color and owner's interest to this small building.

On the edge of two small buildings, the bones of a ship were dismantled and reassembled into the skeleton of a hut. The colorful fishing nets woven by local fishermen were tightly stretched between the skeletons, shining brightly in the sunlight. This is a shaded area shared by people waiting to board, fishing, rescue associations, winter swimmers, and coffee drinkers.
