Sotogrande Villa 95

From the architect. The Villa 95 project is located on an irregularly shaped plot of land in Altos de Valderrama, Sotogrande. From the beginning, the main premise was to maximize the relationship between the house and the natural environment, seeking integration between daily life and the place. The site has a slight slope, which gives it a great depth of landscape.

This project consists of three simple elements that are dynamically grouped to adapt to the direction of the drawing and difficult geometric shapes. The inhabited body has the longest possible proportion to increase contact with nature. They contain land and roads leading to the north and northwest, with two elements open to the east, namely the pool terrace and nighttime area, while the daytime area opens to the south. In the juxtaposition between works, there are two communication cores. The structure of a house defines its spatiality, and we like to think that it adapts to the place as if it has always been there.

The committee includes a very clear desire from its residents to conceive a house that can accommodate several generations. This eternal and multifunctional concept is transformed into a rational structure that allows for functional flexibility in the use of space to adapt to the different lifestyles of the people living in it. We understand this multifunctionality as a form of sustainability, as it is built for durability. With the same attitude, a building that is out of place with fashion has been proposed, possessing the ability to adapt to future times, yearning to travel through time and try not to become outdated. The Italian villas of the late Renaissance, especially those of the 16th century, have always been inspired by this eternal mission, witnessing the passing of several generations and forming continuity between architecture, time, and Veneto life.

The current residents have a rich social life and require the house to have a terrace in the form of an observation deck, a place to enjoy the scenery and receive guests. This terrace is located on the roof of the main floor and serves as an elevated extension of the living space, offering an open view overlooking interesting landscapes.

There is a wellness space in the basement, envisioned as a shared use area, with English style courtyard lighting. Residents are concentrated in the house, providing space for work and exercise, and equipped with all necessary facilities. The residence has air thermal and geothermal systems, enabling it to achieve energy self-sufficiency.

Pedestrians can enter through the protected entrance platform from a lower angle of the plot, while the upward slope of the street allows vehicles to enter the residence from the highest level, comfortably moving underground at the same level as the living area. Therefore, the transition between public space and the interior of the home is naturally resolved.

We like to imagine houses decades from now, transformed by future residents to meet needs that we cannot even imagine today, but buildings will be able to adapt to these needs without losing their essence.
