AnDo Residential Building/Next Office - Alireza Taghaboni

From the architect. The AnDo project - which means' em 'in Persian - attempts to create new types of residential buildings on the filled land. By breaking the circulation and mixing it with the open spaces of the terrace, entrance, and yard, the two units on each floor become a vibrant and peaceful residential complex. Each unit is independent of each other and, with the participation of the stairs connecting them, is like an eternal dance. Two synchronized volumes and a staircase seemingly stuck in the middle create a diverse sequence of spaces that blend seamlessly with their open spaces, like a three-dimensional corridor.

The spatial value of the site where AnDo is located varies greatly. This issue will naturally affect the planning of the project, including both urban landscape and internal organization. One side of the project is adjacent to a school, while the other side complements the urban landscape. Therefore, the north facade facing the school has a more closed character and the least number of openings, mainly due to the cutting of its shape. On the contrary, the south facade has a more porous feature due to its wide field of view in front: its shape attempts to respond to the audience's need to gaze at the scenery.

The project strives to integrate independent yet complementary elements, enabling continuous interaction. The independence of these elements helps to maintain transparency and preserve their 'villa style' essence and characteristics. This also enables the two units of each layer to exist independently. Therefore, the design of each unit is unique, but they are all inspired by the same formal language and spatial characteristics.

AnDo's spatial illustrations and form profiles showcase a sense of dynamism and vitality, while also creating a pleasant living experience, which is reflected in the material application of the project. Continuing the great and long-standing tradition of brick making in Iran, we conducted long-term experiments on the composition of colors using colored soil collected from nearby hills. In the end, we created a combination of bricks that enriched form and space, kept in touch with the history of bricks in local architecture, and allowed guests to feel the warmth of the hometown of earth and stone architecture. It creates both a familiar and unfamiliar atmosphere.
