This is a three story residential building, with the first floor using reinforced concrete (RC) structure, and the second and third floors being a hybrid structure combining wood and steel structures. It is located in the Matsuda area in the southwest of Hyogo Prefecture. The Ma Du Jia Tian area has always been prosperous and thriving due to commercial activities and salt fields, and its streetscape still retains the charm of the past. The building site is located at the southernmost end of the Madoka Tian area, between a bay and a small hill. There is a shrine in the southwest of the land, with a small hill to the west, a distant view of the Seto Inland Sea to the south, and a bay to the east. People expect to build a building that can fully enjoy this beautiful scenery. The design goal is to build a building that harmoniously blends with the surrounding beautiful landscape and is not flashy or eye-catching.

The first floor adopts reinforced concrete (RC) structure, as the plot is only a few tens of meters away from the bay and coast; The second and third floors are constructed with wood and use charred cedar boards to complement the historical architectural style of the Madoka area. The cedar planks are intentionally made narrower than conventional finished planks to fit the scale and proportion of the building. This rethinking of scale gives a modern feel to this building material, which has excellent insect and anti-corrosion effects and has long been used in coastal town landscapes in the Seto Inland Sea region.

The design of the terrace deck aims to allow people to enjoy the surrounding scenery, using reinforced concrete (RC) cantilever plates to support the terrace deck, while additional beams extend from below the deck to enhance the structure. This 3-meter deep terrace deck surrounds the second floor integrated living, dining, and kitchen space (LDK). The kitchen is specially designed for homeowners who love cooking, facing the mountain side, allowing them to enjoy the beautiful scenery of trees while cooking. In this building, the design of each opening aims to provide lighting, ventilation, and typical target landscape views for each room. The seasonal changes of the Seto Inland Sea, bays, trees, and the beautiful scenery of the region are cleverly integrated into this building.

In the layout planning, efforts were made to preserve the existing trees on the site as much as possible, and the buildings were arranged to interweave with the trees. The shape of the main house resembles the banyan tree with a branch length of 10 meters in the center of the site, surrounded by cherry blossom trees and camphor trees from nearby shrines. By maintaining a low proportion of the building, it will stand quietly among the trees, shrines, and trees on the hill behind the house in the future. I hope this building can become a landscape that blends forms with the passage of time.
