When we first arrived at Rua de S ã o Jo ã o, we saw a small hill next to the entrance of the plot, which blocked our view towards the other side - the west.

Since our expertise lies in entrance design - balancing it with terrain shaping - we came up with an idea: to dig a passage along the street on the mountain and open it up on the other side to showcase the landscape.

In the process of communicating with engineers and construction parties, we made a rough estimate of the construction cost of this project, but found that this idea had to be abandoned. Costs must be significantly reduced.

We have changed our design philosophy to avoid unnecessary expenses such as backfilling, excavation, construction of retaining walls, earthworks, and large reinforced concrete structures. We have introduced a series of pure building blocks scattered on the hills, which easily adapt to the existing terrain.

These building blocks are decorated with exterior wall insulation system (cappotto), and the base and external door and window frames are poured with exposed concrete. At the same time, we adjust the height of these "boxes" in different ways, adding dynamism to the internal space in particular.

Whether it's the path design near the house or the initial landscape layout that blocks the view, the complete scenery slowly presents with each step until reaching the living room window, where the view is fully visible. The living room is the only space with an open scale, facing directly to the open west. At that moment, the arrival of dusk appeared particularly gentle.
