The House of Ibi ú na is the latest residential project of Rodrigo Ohtake, the grandson of visual artist Tomie Ohtake and the son of architect Ruy Ohtake. The residence is located in the city of Ibiza, an hour and a half drive from Sao Paulo. It is a weekend retreat for the architect and his family (his wife Anna Carolina and their three children Leah, Ivan, and Tom).

At first, this proposal originated from an invitation from Syshaus, a well-known prefabricated housing manufacturer in Brazil, who hoped to develop a project that was different from ordinary modular prefabricated housing. This invitation was accepted, and the driving force behind it came from the philosophy that his father had taught him throughout his life: to be brave enough to face challenges, establish good relationships between suppliers and the industry, promote the innovative development of construction and construction systems, and most importantly, to develop high-quality housing at affordable prices.

This house adopts a rational construction method, using metal components, glass, and other materials that are easy to transport for construction. The residence is prefabricated first and then installed on a high ground on this piece of land.

Therefore, this house has become a model of agile, intelligent, and sustainable construction beyond traditional civil engineering standards. This is a modern project that seamlessly blends with nature. When arriving here, people will immediately see the carefully designed garden on the roof. After entering the residence, people can enjoy the entire lush external landscape through the open space.

Rodrigo's architectural style is characterized by volume, color, and form (mainly curves), and theoretically, his design direction runs counter to modular systems, which require standardization to achieve rapid production. This is undoubtedly a highly challenging task that requires the emergence of new ideas within some form of rigidity inherent in modular concepts.

The roof adopts self-supporting tiles that can be cut into curves. In terms of exterior design, Rodrigo created some elements to break the rectangular outline of the room, such as curved walls and eaves. For the external enclosure structure, industrial panels with insulation layers were selected and covered with aluminum materials. The curved blue exterior sunshades are made of perforated steel plates and installed on the bedroom module, ensuring privacy and making the house stand out.

In order to create a novel and harmonious space, Rodrigo arranged all rooms in pre-set volume modules, but kept these modules at a certain distance from each other to create spatial separation. In this way, this spacious and coherent area enclosed by a large aluminum alloy frame (with fixed or sliding glass) serves as a social space: living room, dining room, and kitchen.

The indoor space is mainly in orange color, forming a sharp contrast with the surrounding lush dark green landscape. The bedroom is not equipped with curtains, designed to allow people to wake up leisurely in the embrace of nature. This residential building, covering an area of 180 square meters, took 90 days to complete production at the Syshaus factory and was subsequently installed on site in just 30 days. Most of the furniture in the residence was designed by Rodrigo himself, while all the artworks were carefully selected by his wife, who is also an art curator.
