The connection and division of space between interior and exterior - The project is located in a conveniently accessible area, surrounded by railways on the north and south sides, and abandoned parks and main roads on the east and west sides, in a corner of a residential area cut off by urban infrastructure. Surrounded by neatly arranged small houses, the street view appears unremarkable, like an ordinary block that you can see anywhere.

Due to the convenient transportation in the region, it is undergoing reconstruction and intergenerational replacement. The original two-story residential buildings in the area are gradually being replaced by three story residential buildings with garages. In short, the addition of the garage has caused the front yard, which was originally located on the first floor, to disappear, while the volume has increased to three floors.

Based on this situation, the design team designed a two-story residential building without a garage for this site. Due to the irregular shape of the site, which is pentagonal and has two open sides, it is difficult to determine the direction. The team has decided to handle each side of the building in a consistent manner. Firstly, the design team drew a one size smaller line within the site boundary, dividing it into nine square areas. In this way, the building is evenly arranged in five directions. The design opens at the intersection point and closes the parts without intersection, resulting in multiple separated spaces. People can see the interaction between different spaces through the perspective of these diagonals. In the end, the nine blocks and four intersection areas naturally appear.

Adjust the height of the hanging wall at the intersection point and adjust the space according to the changes at each intersection point. For example, spaces 6 and 8 on the first floor, as well as space 15 on the second floor, are separated by walls. Other areas are slightly enclosed by hanging walls at the intersection of squares: for example, the transition area from space 5 to space 9 on the first floor (at the staircase), as well as the kitchen and dining areas on the second floor, which form a coherent living space.

In daily life, as our gaze changes, our perception of space also changes - space is sometimes connected and sometimes disconnected. And the connection with the external environment is achieved by adding greenery to these blocks. The green plants in the front yard are brought into the interior, and through this spatial hierarchy change, the entire building becomes more open. The ceiling has been raised, and the overall height of the building is about 2.5 floors, which enhances the sense of space.

The position and size of the windows on each wall have been carefully designed, taking into account the characteristics of the surrounding environment. By designing in this way, the facade no longer requires clear symbols indicating floors and directions, and the arrangement of windows cleverly blends the two story residence with the three story residence with a garage visually.
